The Forest Of Dean is one of the few surviving Royal hunting forests which still boasts a herd of wild fallow deer. There are many places of interest within the forest which attract many visitors throughout the year. The Belfry is nestled on the edge of the forest and originates from early mining days. It was then known as The George and was used by local people after a hard nights work down the mines, in fact the pub was frequently full at 4.00am in the morning! The George, like mining in the Forest fell on hard times and was closed by its brewery owner. It was purchased in 1991 by the Bell family who with the help of local people have created The Belfry.

Gloucester Farm Shop and Kitchen
At Gloucester, we delight in feeding throngs of hungry motorists each year. Our approach to food has not changed from the simple ethos we worked to when Tebay first opened back in 1972. It's important to us that our produce is local, seasonal and that our food is home-cooked. That's why we make as much of our food as possible in our kitchens every day. It means we can choose what goes into recipes (and what doesn't) and that the end result reaches you quicker, fresher and tasting better. At Gloucester, we serve lamb and beef from surrounding farms, source chicken and eggs from local producers and ensure that as far as possible dishes are influenced by seasonal produce - so don't expect pumpkin soup in April or asparagus in October. But we do promise mince pies at Christmas.

Stone Rock Pizza
We absolutely love Pizza, who doesn’t? But there is something very different about real Neapolitan pizza, the kind that is produced with high quality ingredients, using traditional dough making methods and fired at high temperatures in a clay oven. We spent 18 months researching, sourcing the right ingredients and learning about exactly what it takes to make a pizza of this quality. I’m now a certified pizza chef but to provide even more authenticity we’ve recruited a top Pizzaiolo in Pasquale Mangiacotti who has based himself here in Chepstow and helped us perfect our sourdough.

Puzzlewood - A magical day out in the Forest of Dean
What is the Magic of Puzzlewood? Could it be the maze of pathways winding through the gulleys of mossy rocks, the twisted roots of the yew trees or the bridges, lookouts and other things you can find on your way round? Puzzlewood is a unique and enchanting place, located in the beautiful and historic Forest of Dean. Explore a mile of meandering pathways, with its fantastic tree and rock formations, through this 14 acre ancient woodland. It has an atmosphere quite unlike any other wood you have visited. JRR Tolkien is reputed to have taken his inspiration for the fabled forests of Middle Earth from Puzzlewood, and it's easy to see why.
As well as the woods we have lots of animals, a willow maze, indoor mazes and a toddler racing track, an outdoor playground, plenty of picnic benches, a cafe and gift shop with lots of local crafts. The magical scenery of Puzzlewood has made it a popular location for filming and to date we have played host to a number of exciting television dramas including Dr Who, Merlin and Atlantis.

Forest of Dean Sculpture
The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust and The Forestry Commission have worked in partnership for the last 30 years to create this vital Sculpture Trail that enjoys visitors of over 300,000 people per year. We rely on donations and fundraising to commission new works for the trail.
The works were deliberately discrete in the woodland. The idea being that visitors would have to seek them out or come across them by chance. However, their popularity demanded footpaths and signposting. Nevertheless, the Forest is not a gallery. It is a location, a place, an industry, an environment, a dwelling place for flora and fauna and a site for leisure activity. The sculptures and the environment are of equal value and do not compete for attention. The Forest of Dean has a fascinating history and the immediate impression of rural idyll and romantic landscape belies the historical tensions between industrial and sylvan, man-made and natural, utopian and dystopian, settlements and forest, all of which have shaped this unique environment. As such it presents a rich source of inspiration – not only for artists – but for everyone.
We invite visitors to enjoy the works on a wide range of levels. You will not find labels and information on the route, but instead are encouraged to investigate the sculptures in your own way. You, of course, will bring with you your own stories, narratives and experiences which will influence the way you encounter these artworks in the forest. We hope you enjoy them now and come back again soon – either in another season (as these sculptures enjoy ever-changing visual contexts) or to see the new works as they appear over the next phase of commissioning.
Dean Forest Railway
Our 4 1/2 mile line runs through beautiful woodland and countryside offering visitors a chance to experience the relaxing pace of a typical country branch line. Our volunteers work hard to ensure you have a great day out, we hope you can find all you need to know on our website and come and visit us soon!

The route through Stow on the Wold has been improved by the construction of a footpath to the west of Stow Hill. Hillside Brewery - Beer Tasting and Experience Days
We are only a small brewery and we are very proud of that. In fact writing this website is stopping me doing deliveries or helping our head brewer with the latest creation! And it is that creation, that passion to enjoy another great beer that keeps us getting up in the morning (although the view does help!). We love what we do and, to be honest, the people we do it with and who we do it for. Be that a cask going to a pub locally or, as our reputation grows, further afield or it a group coming in for a brewery tour. The enthusiasm they have for us to produce a great tasting beer is more than enough for us to head in to the brewery and get the mash tun going! Our range is evolving as we realise what our customers like and, ok let’s be honest, what they don’t! We now have a great core range which we brew and we are adding craft specials to this selection on an ongoing basis.
Now all we ask is take a look around the website, try a beer, book on to a tour or use our great venue to host an event – whatever it is we just want you to like what we do and let us know what you think as well. Superb experience days at Hillside. All are experience days are suitable for over 12’s and can even enjoy the brewery tour but unfortunately they won’t be able to sample the beer until they are over 18!

The Park and Poor's Allotment
During the 1800s, Poor’s Allotment was established as a parcel of common land on which the people of the parish of Tidenham could graze their livestock. More than 200 years of light grazing has preserved the open nature of this reserve, which was once the location of a beacon that would carry signals across the River Severn. Poor’s Allotment was classified as a nature reserve in 1964, and from 2014 the Trust has managed the reserve on behalf of its owners, Poor’s Allotment Trustees. The Park, once part of a large estate, is managed in partnership with Forestry England.
Poor’s Allotment is an ancient heathland with rough acidic grassland and small flushes of limestone grasses, while the acidic soil supports heathers and orchids. A spring emerges into a pond in which great crested newts breed, and from here the water drops into the woodland and disappears into a sink hole caused by a patch of limestone within the sandstone. Water also passes close to the surface of the ground in the lower field, in which bog pimpernel is found alongside hundreds of heath spotted orchids.
The Park is an area of wet woodland with lowland heath previously used as a conifer plantation and now managed as a heathland restoration project to complement Poor’s Allotment. Conservation grazing by sheep, ponies and rare breed cattle is used to maintain and enhance both sites.
Keep an eye out for wading birds such as jacksnipe and the well-camouflaged woodcock. Slow worms and adders warming themselves under rocks, as well as lizards basking in sunny areas of gorse. Spring flowers such as bluebells, common spotted orchids in May and June, followed by heather in August and September. Green hairstreak butterflies visit in summer.

It is an area popular with locals, particularly for dog walking (see this route) and takes in ancient woodland as well as many historic sites.
As you follow the old railway line through Mireystock and on towards Lydbrook, you get a sense of the mining history. There are embankments, cuttings, bridges and a tunnel and in places the old boundary fence is still in situ. As you walk north from Speculation towards the A4136 (Gloucester to Monmouth road) you come to an area known as Mireystock. Here the railway had a steep descent (1 in 58) into Lydbrook starting in a cutting before entering Mireystock Tunnel. You can walk down to the entrance, although it is very wet, and the tunnel itself is closed. The tunnel is 221m long, under the A4136, and emerges into a deep, steep sided cutting. In the 1970s, this cutting was filled with 30,000 tonnes of waste from the nearby Waterloo Colliery, removing all access to the tunnel and preventing its use when the cycle paths were constructed 20 years later.
Close to Mireystock is a secluded fishing pond, known as Waterloo Screens, used by The Royal Forest of Dean Angling Club and stocked with carp, perch, tench, chub, roach and rudd. Although the pond can be approached from Mireystock Tunnel and Bridge, access is boggy and the simplest way is from a pull-in on the A4136 south of Brierley. For much of the year the pond is covered in native water lilies and is a picturesque spot

The Bartender UK - Online Cocktail Bar Solutions and Cocktail Workshops
THE BARTENDER ETHOS: GREAT COCKTAILS NEED NOT COST THE EARTH
Our aim is to be able to provide great cocktails for everyone, not just the rich and famous. We began our operations in 2005, giving customers the freedom to have a mixologist for as long as they want with hourly rates for bartender hire.
TheBartender was also the first cocktail company to give the client the option of purchasing their own ingredients and glassware on a ‘shopping list’ basis, to again give the client the freedom to shape their spending, thus helping their budget to stretch that little bit further. Our team of cocktail bartenders are hand-picked for their personality and charisma, as well as their drinks making skills. We do not employ robots to serve drinks; we prefer to entertain with drinks. We have an office team of account managers, comprised of award winning mixologists, bar consultants, and event managers all ready to look after your event, no matter how large or small.

St Pierre Golf Course - Chepstow
Built around a charming 14th century manor and a beautiful 11th century church, The St Pierre, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club, is renowned as one of the UK’s finest golf courses. Following a £1.8 million facelift, every element of the hotel has been restored to perfection and with two contrasting courses – the Old Course and the Mathern Course – it is a wonderful place to stay and play. A former host to the Curtis, the British Masters and the Solheim Cup, both courses have recently been given a £2 million upgrade by Ross McMurray of European Golf Design. The Old Course is built around an 11-acre lake and studded with many ancient trees, including a giant 400 year-old chestnut that dominates the 2nd hole. It is a delight to play and can claim one of the finest finishes in golf with a thrilling 235-yard par-3 18th including a shot over water to an elevated green protected by sand. The Mathern Course is shorter than the Old but has been vastly improved since its overhaul, when 18 new tee sites were added, bunkers were reconstructed and repositioned and a modern irrigation system installed. Its signature hole is undoubtedly the 14th, which crosses two rivers, but there is lots to enjoy, however you play. As well as exceptional courses, you’ll find a state-of-the-art Golf Academy where golfers of all abilities can hone both their long and short game.
